Funded by the Department of Defense, Cyber-REACH (Research Education Adventures for Community College and High School Students) will provide a basis of knowledge in deep-learning, machine-learning, and cybersecurity research.  In summary, ~50 high school teachers who will each invite four students to participate in the following activities.  Now accepting registration for a second cohort of teachers.

Program Expectations:
  • Attend four Cyber-REACH after school workshops in early June, 2021 (via Zoom and in-person unless prevented by the health crisis) to study deep learning and machine learning labs and cybersecurity research related to these topics.
  • Recruit four high school students to attend the four Cyber-REACH workshops with you.
  • Mentor the four high school students and coach them with independent cybersecurity research projects during the summer and fall of 2021.
  • Assist the four high school students in learning the associated free Cyber-REACH online modules.
  • Receive support from Mines faculty and graduate students.
  • Attend the Fall 2021 poster presentation and dinner (hopefully in person!) at Mines with your four students.

Teachers will be eligible for stipends between $360 and $600 depending on the number of participants.

Suggested student pre-requisites:
*Students should have successfully completed or are in the process of completing an introductory CS course, such as CS Discoveries or AP CSP.
*Students should have basic programming skills, ideally in Python. Although students can learn Python while they are practicing the labs or after the initial workshops.
*We recommend that students know some basic Linux commands, but again this is something that students can learn after the workshops.
